Should be fine. I've used pennzoil synth, castrol synth, and now rotella 5w40 for years and almost 100k without issues.

Rather than who sells it, and in the absence of information on who makes it for them (hint, it was the low bidder), just look at the certifications. You want an API SM or API SN oil, 5W-30.

Engine is a little noisy after using Napa brand oil on X5 V8

Initially it is no difference between Napa brand oil vs Mobil One. But after 500 miles or so, it seems to be more noisy after driving high way miles transiting to local miles (when engine is hot). Not too much, but enough for me to sense it.

Valvoline is excellent oil but yes, the service rating is the thing to watch. you might try using 1/2 synthetic and 1/2 not. Works really well, enigine will run quieter and burn less oil and it's more friendly to the rubber seals. The only draw back is cranking when it gets down to -30 or so. I think Valvoline still makes a synthetic blend but you can also mix yourself. I just try to to stick to the same brand when mixing.

What's the advantage of mixing 1/2 and 1/2? Why bother when you can use M1 0w40 without issues and can be had for dirt cheap (with rebate) at Wally World? I've been running various M1 since the X was out of the 4 years "free" maintenance (since 2008). My last 3 oil changes using M1 were dirt cheap ($50 for two 5Q jugs with $24 rebates)! M1 runs these rebate programs at least once per year

That's what I had for my Z32TT. However, I have switched to LM 10W-60 now.
