The Corner Trim in the Headlight Lense

Planning on removing the covers sometime this week.
Once out, is the corner trim *part of the lense cover* or does it fit on the housing piece. Just preparing myself on how easy or how hard it's going to be to get the turn signal trim out.

You're not going to get much input with out some specifics (ie, build date) of your housings.

I'm picking them up from CL....
pre facelift.
And yes, I'm aware of the seal on '03.

Back to the trim question ...

Your question may see trivial to you, but try and understand it from our perspective. We don't know if you understand the differences between housings. Being detailed in your question helps us to gauge the best way to respond.

Take my headlights for example...I didn't find them overly difficult (ridiculously time consuming, sure), yet it's still looked upon as impossible for many here. So asking "how hard" without providing any kind of reference point makes it much tougher to accurately respond....thus limiting responses.

That being said, once open removing the amber shouldn't pose a problem...http://www.xoutpost.com/bmw-sav-foru...r-corners.html

as murphys strike, it's a set of '03 headlights.

I going to try the 15-20 minute bake, xacto, wedge....maybe bake some more....and see how bad or terrible that sealant is going to be.

On post facelift, I recall a bake was suggested at 45 minutes..

IIRC, The Retrofit Source recommends baking permasealed headlights at 285 for 23 minutes.

If you do go through with this and get the permasealed lights open without damage I'd love to hear your methods and if the baking instructions above worked! Exacto, very thin flat blade screwdriver and wedge, maybe some small picks are all good examples of tools you'll need.

I'm having a friend grab some dentist picks from work...

Note: I've never opened a set of headlights so this is all foreign to me...

I'm planning to do one set....bake, cut - and maybe bake cut again and hopefully this frees it in a clean shot.

Based on other diy, with the soft stuff, all you do is literrally bake and *pop* the cover right off.

I presume/expect that due to the permaseal....I will have to do post cleaning to get the channel nice and clean for the new sealant when it get reassembled.

sounds like a good plan of attack, for those that have gotten these permaseals open, be aware its going to take you a decent amount of time, and yes when you do finally get it open clean out the channel of the permaseal for a nice sealant of choice (most of us recommend oci-butyl)
