problem pairing car with the phone over BT

My car stopped connecting to my phone via bluetooth a few days ago. I have deleted the pairing and tried to pair the phone with the car using the instructions from the manual (which i found to be very confusing) but with no success… Online search did help either. When i bought the car two months ago the sales rep at the dealership paired my phone with the car and never showed me how to do it. I called him the other day and he doesn't remember how he did it… What are the actual steps of connecting the car that doesn't have a docking connector to a bluetooth phone? I hope it's just a glitch and my BT module still works…
My car doesn't have nav, but has DSP, build date is Aug, 2006

You may be following the directions correctly. Delete the current pairing or pairings and start all over and it should pair.

ok, figured it out... the manual was completely wrong... manual says set key in position 1, press the button with a "face and sound waves" button on the steering wheel, wait 3 sec, etc...
It was a lot simpler - hit a tel button on MID, wait for the car bt to show up in the phone and pair the device... (I have to admit i tried this too, but the car bt never showed up in the list of available devices to pair up... tried this at the dealers and it worked, must have been a number of issues happening at the same time, i guess)

Sometimes I wonder if the issue is our smartphones. They will sometimes turn BT off if your phone is set to an energy savings mode. If the battery level gets low, it will turn BT off to preserve energy...thus disconnecting your phone and X.

I started noticing this...and sometimes it takes a while for the phone & X to pair up again once I've turned the phone's BT back on.

Glad you got it fixed. Just to contribute my experience for anyone else experiencing this problem, try using 1234 as the pairing code if the one printed on the ULF doesn't work. I picked up a used ULF from Ebay, and had a custom loom made for it. Spent ages trying to figure out why it wouldn't pair with any of the phones I tried (deleted all existing paired phones etc.) but no luck. Then, just out of desperation I tried 1234 (or it may have been 0000) and voila, pairing successful.
I guess the guy in Lithuania (that sells loads of these and Nav units), has a way to reset the pairing code in case the label is missing or unreadable.
Hope this helps someone Cheers. Kev

Yeah i agree, the smartphones do get glitchy once in a while, i think this was my case... i just made it worse when i deleted the pairing, should have been more patient...

Good know that you can buy these units used... will keep that in mind

Just happend again this morning. When I pulled my phone from its charger...BT was turned off. When I turned it back on...it wanted to search...but didn't list all the things it had already been paired to right away...so I turned it off...and retried. On the 2nd attempt, the X and other things on the list appeared and the phone's BT icon illuminated.

Sometimes when this happens the BT list will appear right away, sometimes it's like this morning & it takes a few attempts, then sometimes I give up and retry it 3-5 minutes later...or wait until I get in the parking lot at work and try it. It always eventually works...but again, this is my Samsung SG2's fault, and not the X5's.

After a phone is paired it may take 2-3 minutes to be operative in the future. The pass key numbers necessary for the initial pairing are the default pass key numbers on the particular phone being paired or those set up by the owner. Four letter passkey phone defaults would likely be 0000. Once the passkey of the phone registers with vehicle bluetooth you won't be asked again. Pairing code must be entered within 30 seconds and car should be running.

Yes...thanks for clarifiying that just in case it wasn't clear in my reply above.

I've only had to type in my PK code once...I've never had to re-enter it since the first time it asked. But as mentioned above, sometimes when my phone's BT has been disabled to save energy...it may take a few attempts for it to list everything it's already been paired with.

Hi Guys,
Finally got some free time today and looked into my BT issues. I have tried every methods mentioned and suggest on this board with any success. So, I opned the rear compartment to make sure that all the connections are properly secured and connected. It appears that everything is connected and tight. Tried again and nothing worked. I am getting really frustraded. I have no issues with the BT on my other BMW. I snapped a photo of the module but I am having issues posting the pic. So, are some info attached to the module:

BMW EVEREST IBUS US
SW:25. HW: 42
BT: 00E00C5AADF2
PK:9715
ESN:146-02576256

BARCODE
IUH0009963 EVUIBS45A7

This is exactly how it appears on the module. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you
