not the oil FILTER...

the cover that you put the oil into the motor, the square thingy that says BMW RECOMMENDS CASTROL... (oil FILLER)

that sound on the video sounds like something obivously mechanical, not air or vacuum... like something has a loose nut or a bolt, and something is wobbling on rotation... My nightmare would be the chain guide rails - if the chain is slapping around...

since you are planning on doing the oil change, can you check for metal shavings in the oil - if the chain is slapping around the engine, you will see aluminum shavings on the oil...

What would you rate you mechanical competence on a scale of 1-10. One being I don't even have a set of tools to 10 being I can rebuild an engine?

I am assuming you are not getting a very good sound reproduction from your video?

Reason to remove OIL FILL CAP is to listen to see if the noise is louder there or if you can hear it at all.

Because of the low mileage (that should have been the first question), I agree with TerminaterX5, it is now at least as likely it is something loose or vibrating. FYI-the source of noise can be deceiving. If you have accurately found the source of something vibrating or hitting it could be a heat shield, exhaust, etc. etc.

I strongly recommend it is imperative to do the metal to metal troubleshooting method suggested. If you are not able to do so, I would take it to a local INDY shop that you have verified they have a good reputation and ask them to tell you what's going on. If they can make the noise happen when the X is on the hoist it should be easy to pinpoint and show you firsthand. If it is something simple they may fix it on the spot if not, they can give you an estimate and you can let us know what they said and what it will cost to fix it. Note- INDY shops can get it wrong as well. There are MANY threads here where someone has spent hundreds of dollars replacing something that was not broken rather than thorough troubleshooting.

Will take off the oil filler cap and try it.

I will also during the next week take it to the indy and follow all the procedures, with the car on the hoist. A friend of mine owns an indy shop and will help me.

The link pointed by terminator shows the noise i'm hearing. I will also take a look on it.

The link from TerminatorX5 does should like your video.As mentioned, noises don't always come from where you hear them. If you have a throttle body issue I would expect the noise to be louder with the hood open.

Some time ago I had a grinding noise when I turned the steering wheel lock to lock. I couldn't be sure where it was coming from. I was at my BMW dealer getting an alignment and asked them to diagnose the problem. They said I needed a new power steering rack. I paid for the input and went on my way. I went to local Indy shop for second opinion. They said it was a strut tower bearing. I had changed the struts not that long ago so I was still uncomfortable. A few days later I was cleaning my wheels and saw a shinny spot on the bottom edge of the wheel well. I did a little shade tree engineering and no more noise. Lesson--do all you can to be sure what is wrong before you throw parts at it. If they have a diagnosis ask then how they know that is what is wrong or it it could be anything else.

Last week, i changed the oil to 10w40. The noise did not change. When in idle and P or N, no noise. When breaked, in D or R, the rotation floats slightly, and during this float, when rev downs, noise appears, when rev return to normal, noise goes away.....

definetely, you have to try the stethoscope, like the doctors are using, and you need to put your ear to the source of the noise - otherwise, you will be chasing your own tail...

of course, another option is, to write a blank check with your signature and give it to your favorite local mechanic...

try the "listening" devices, either home made, or the bought from a store... you will be able to narrow the location of the noise to an engine, or tranny, or, maybe some other part of the car - in my '98 E39 i had a loose heat shield around exhaust, that rattled only when engine idled in N, and never in D or R... very specific noise, but once i learned it was the heatshield, i just let it be...

I saw your video. I hate this noise. it's very similar when my engine had a spun bearing. It's not the best thing to heard but... maybe. The dealer change the engine under warranty, but I'll never forget this noise.
