This works only if the BMW is single-locked...which sounds like what the kids may have done.

The only scenario I can think of where you can lock the keys inside the cabin..requires that all the doors are locked manually (or the central locking button is used while the driver's door is closed)...then one exits from one of the doors other than the driver's door and it is then manually locked. This means that the vehicle is single-locked and all is required is two pulls of the interior door handles to open a door.

If the vehicle is locked with the key (remotely or manually)...then the vehicle is double-locked...and the interior door handles won't open the doors with only the "normal" two pulls of the handle.

Much sympathy to anyone who goes through this...but again, it is another reminder to those that only possess one key as to NOT be cavalier with how you use your key, where it's located and to make sure that it is ALWAYS on your person at all times and not inside the vehicle if there's ANY possibility of it being locked inside.

Or at least be cognizant that the key is inside the vehicle and to make sure NO ONE locks the key inside the car by giving yourself access so in case you go against rule #1 (always keep the key on your person/pocket/purse outside of the vehicle):
  • rolling down a window or
  • unlocking all the doors even when entering thru the tailgate (so in case you do set the key down and close the tailgate...you can still press the release pad, or go inside the cabin and press the remote tailgate release button

OK thanks to some of you who actually helped. next time someone asks for help on a forum I hope you think twice about making jokes and just saying no. I finally did it my own way or a variation of what UCrewX5 pm'ed me about. If anyone else ever needs help unlocking their X5 let ME know.

We understand your frustration, however the information you requested was not
mine to give. (I honestly don't know the process) and apparently its not public knowledge either.
That being the case many will be reluctant to provide information ever more so to someone they don't know.

The person you requested the information from came thru and that's great
But be careful who you decide to give it to. If you noticed there is a reason
why people are reluctant to provide easy access to their vehicles.

Now go out and get a spare key or a wallet key.

I hope you didn't have to damage your X. What year and model is it and how many miles? Hope you are not discouraged about participating in the forum. FYI, depending on some variables there are other ways to open your X.

we always make jokes, as we are here for the friendship, and friends always joke with each other... we will welcome you too as a friend but we did not and still do not know you - and this is not the number of the posts next to your name - we have newer members that have come to us from other boards where they are active and they bring their "credit of trust" with them... ask upallnight... without "knowing" you from your posts, problems that you asked about, solutions that you posted, we are rather reluctant to post a potentially damaging information, even through a PM... UCrew came through, it is on him, he has been around for long time, hopefully he knows what he is doing... if you have read many posts on this forum, you will see it is rather hard to accuse us of not helping...

Just makes me happy we did not go all picnicking...

never mind - internal joke, we have been here long enough to see some fake folks who we send packing to a picnic...

can we go down by river and enjoy picnic T?

Glad you got it solved OP but like Mr. T said himself there is a certain level of trust for information that could potentially help someone steal an X5, and without referrals from other forums etc I can understand how some members might not be excited to post that on a public forum (who knows who could be reading that, gosh you can go on youtube nowadays and learn how to make a homemade bomb!)

Thanks for coming through UCrew, thats why you are the founder extraordinaire!

I expect to get thrashed for this but I don't see the big deal about providing information about how to open an X when anyone that wants to get in a vehicle that shouldn't can break a window. Someone wanting to steal a vehicle except for a joy ride should know enough to steal something that can be parted out easily like a Honda or Ford 150 and be far less conspicuous in the process. I acknowledge most thieves aren't that smart but I don't see them coming to the forum for help.

With a simple set of tools I can be inside of an E53 in less than a minute with no sign of how I got in. I'm not going to be the one to post the tricks. If someone else wishes to, have at it.
