Somewhere along the line quite awhile ago (slightly off subject)
I know I read about BMW issuing a statement of some sort pertaining to discoloration of black parts and trim around windows (sport)
Like blueish tint due to frequent washings and soap build up but camt for the life of me find the write up or info again...
Mine are starting to become a little hazy/ rainbow blueish, but i domt want to use any heavy duty solvents..
Anyone know what im talking about?

Yes I think I know what you mean. I read a post somewhere about it.
I believe the trim is supposed to be fixed with car wax. Mine are getting hazy also.
I'd guess its a build up of road film over time.

Cadesto you have sport package right? And thusly, the Gloss black shadowline window trims?

Basically the BMW bulletin was saying that the trims could be showing water spots, hard water stains etc fairly easily due to frequent automatic car washes and just neglect in general.

They are painted pieces just like the rest of your car, and when my X was purchased by myself they were in pretty tough shape.

If you own a random orbital buffer, get a 3" backing plate and some 3" foam polishing/compounding pads and do a few rounds starting with a compound to get the imperfections lessened then finish with a polish and a nice coat of wax/sealant.

Claybar it first as well, just like paint. No need for harsh solvents, just the same stuff you would need to correct your cars paint!

ok so basically, to plastidip a small object (with a matte finish), you just need to clean the object well and spray can away?
If you want to make it glossy/metallic, you need yo add a second spraying of something?
I'm very curious about doing it to my summer wheels with a glossy look but worry the rocks and pressure washing will strip them quickly.

Yes but I would watch some Youtube and DipYourCar.com videos first. Just type in "Plastidip". Some car paint colors have issues with the bright colors of the Plastidip. Seems the neon colors stain the clear coat on some cars. I have dipped several things without issues so far. The keys to a good and lasting finish is CLEAN and DRY very well before painting then do about 5 coats with the first one being a really thin coat.If your using standard black I can foresee no problems. Its almost amazing how the background pulls off around the part you want painted. Pull the excess away at angles. This video shows the technic. The gloss look comes from Glossifier.

Thanks Ricky!
That was exactly the info i was looking for.

IMO I guess if you want to TRY a color out on your wheels, plastidip is a good solution..
But in reality powder coating is the best way, its surprisingly not very expensive either, about 50 a wheel and will never chip or need touchup unless you thrash on a curb. Way more oem / pro looking.

I paid $75 per wheel on my E46. It looks good on the stock bmw wheels. I didn't get a standard color so it was a lil more costly. I just didn't want the standard silver. I forget what color he called it. Its like a dark gray granite.

I recently did my wheels in Anthracite with 3 coats of glossifier. I was concerned if it would hold up going through a carwash. No problem so far.

Before I painted the wheels I tried the Dipyourcar patching process on a piece of sheet metal I painted to see if I damaged the paint would I have to start over or could I patch the spot. The repair process works great so I went ahead.
