Introducing me and my X5
I've recently joined this forum, as I bought a 2004 X5 3.0d in May. My name is Rolf, and I'm from south west Norway. I've been owning and working on BMWs for about 9 years. All of my cars were stock when I got them. I bought my first BMW when I was 15, a 1981 E21 320/6 (M20B20, 6 cylinder). I learned a lot from that car. When I bought it, I had no mechanic experience at all, so I got myself a big tool kit, disassembled and then reassembled the whole car. It took a while and I didn't have a lot of money at the time, so I didn't put on a lot of new parts. It was mainly for learning purposes. I've still got that car. After that I bought a rusty E28 528i and a bad E28 525i which I disassembled and sold the parts from. After that I bought a 1977 E12 528, and shortly after that, a 1975 E12 528. Sold both of those. A couple of months before I turned 18, I bought the car of my dreams. A nice 1985 E28 528i. This was my daily driver for around 2 years. We went everywhere together. It failed the last inspection because of the lowering springs. There was a couple of other things that needed to be done as well, so I put the car in the garage. I have a S38B36 engine for it, and during this year or next year, it will be up and running! ![]() ![]() I then bought a 1986 E30 320i as a daily driver. It was dirt cheap, so I did everything I wanted to do with it. Slammed it, wide 15" wheels etc. I used it for around 2 years, and I'm planning on selling it. This is a pic from early winter, with snow tires Great for plowing! ![]() This is how low I drove the last 6 months. ![]() In 2010 I bought a E12 525 from Sweden. It's getting the M106 turbo engine, from a E23 745i this summer. Mildly tuned, so it puts out ~350-400 PS. I'm considering keeping it grandpa blue, just for the fun of having a real sleeper. ![]() In 2012 I also bought a 1993 E34 525tds Touring. ![]() ![]() And now to the X. Option List: Quote:

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I've painted the kidneys satin black since these pics were taken. I think it looks awesome. I've ordered the ebay 4.8is kit (recieving it today), new fog lights, a new door seal, new trim piece for the steering wheel, the heat shields for the 4.6/4.8 exhaust in the rear bumper, K&N air filter and a couple of other things. I'm also considering a full bilstein suspension kit. It lowers the car 25mm, so I'm worried it might be too low... One of the best things about the X5, is the height.... I'll update here when stuff gets done ![]()

Nice cars man! Good taste, 25mm wont be too low.. Especially if your used to driving slammed/lowered cars... All the guys im friends and me roll slammed, given they are 4.8is's we always have the option of raising them up whenever.. Lol

Good to see a Norwegian on this forum, what a beautiful collection of classic BMW's you have and have had over the years!
Scandinavia is one place I would love to visit in my lifetime, I'm sure it is such a pretty a peaceful area. Love your 04' 3.0d too! We are so jealous in the states that the E53 came diesel in Europe, if we had the 3.0d here I would for sure have one for myself! 25mm is fine for a height drop, its a sporty drop and you will be a touch below stock height of 4.8is, the cars pnoyako85 references above are probably 2 inches lower than stock height (so 3" lower than where you are now), so go for it!

moving from E12, E21, E28 and E34 to an E53 - is a leap into luxury... lol.. the older cars were more fun to drive, they were simple and seriously mean... with the E38, E39, E53 and the like - a new breed of elegance appeared... still mean, even though not as much, but now elegant.. lol..
very nice collection, very impressive... welcome to the forum!!!

Whoa, I won't be going THAT low The ride height is one of the reasons I wanted the car. It doesn't look silly sitting high, like normal cars do :pBut a 25mm drop could be allright. The price of the whole kit is less than the price of 1 new original shock, so I might just do it. It's used, but in very good condition. Thanks, I do too ![]() Thank you ![]() Quote:
![]() The X5's are still relatively expensive here, and the usual X5-driver is like 40-50, has a dog, a horse trailer, a ski box and a wife and/or daughter who only cares about riding horses... I guess that's one of the main reasons there isn't a lot of Norwegians on here ![]() And when you can get a E90 or E60 for around the same money as the X5, most people choose one of those. They're more modern. The E53 is like an expensive E46/E39 cross breed, and the E60 and E90 is the newer generation. But I'm not most people, so I don't care ![]() Scandinavia is a gorgeous place when the weather is nice. This summer I'm spending 3 weeks driving around in Norway and Sweden. Visiting small towns and mostly avoiding highways. I think everyone should experience that at least once in their life Quote:
It's a giant leap, it really is. But still, if I were to choose only one car to drive the rest of my life, I would choose the E28. In my opinion, nothing can compare to it. It's the old kind of elegance, it's mean and the driving experience is unfiltered. I love how the lines flow in their own 80's way, and how you can feel that everything is just made to be great. The E28 is the last "pure" BMW, which you actually could drive yourself. In the later models, you feel more and more like a passenger in your own car. There is no doubt that the newer BMW's are great cars, because they really are. But for me, nothing can beat the rawness of a E28, the greatest BMW ever built. (In my opinion )Thanks It's a good thing I'm addicted to the best, and not Mazda or Benz
