Nazario, The question(s) should be is/are the ~$400 a month/$5Gs a year for the next few years of how much importance to you? If the dough is doable, in the budget, then it's simply your choice as to your wanting a newer different car, and one under an umbrella... Other consdieration is obvious as to how you will be using a car for the next couple years, post school: daily driver, NJ vs the streets of Gotham City, etc. And, for non-work days, what do you want/need in a car. You young people with jobs and income have a diff slant on cars than us few older retired bums, as few of us geezers are looking to toss a car, due to fiscal considerations. In other words, ~$5Gs a year, (cost of newer hot rod 3 vs current X5), covers a lot of maintenance cost-wise, though the time and aggravation for potential kaboom! maintenance is also a factor. And, it boils down to driving what one really likes/wants to, if economics 'work', vs driving what one currently has... Nothing you probably haven't thought of, or considered! GL, Ol'UncleMotor

The depreciation on the 2011 will end up costing you 2x E53 X5s.
From your $400 payment, you'll be lucky to get half of that back when you go to sell. New (almost) BMWs are an entirely different ball game, cost wise. Anything out of warranty will eat you alive, too. IIRC, you are a young guy who is fresh out of college. Saddling yourself with a car payment is the worst think you can do at this stage in your life.

Keeping an old car up is almost always a better decision financially than buying a new one -- especially considering the resale value of X5s.

Even though mine is a 3.0 the way she roars to life when I turn the ignition key each morning helps pay down all the toil and sweat. I'd be torn also.

Great insight from all of you-- I had thought about depreciation. It's going to be bad on a 335...
My commute to work is about 8 miles worth of back country roads (tons of fun actually). The thing that scares me is maintenance, but I guess even with lots of money towards maintenance, the depreciation would outweigh that. My decision is to keep my eyes open for the "right" new car, but not to rush anything. If it comes along, great, if not, I'm still in love with my X5. People still think it's brand new.
