when you say diodes burnt out, do you mean individual pixels on the alphanumeric display, or some other lights? there is a TEST02 that tests the lights of the cluster, try it out, see what is working and what is not...
do you know how to pull the TEST02?

also, it might be waaaay cheaper to repair the original cluster as opposed to replace with a used one...

yes rebuilding seems to be only $250, however car will be down for 3-4 days waitng, but cheaper than $700 for new one. There are a couple places here in Ca. that offer rebuilding.

press and hold the right button - it will say control check ok, keep holding the button, it will say TEST01, let go of the button and press again, it will say TEST02, let go of the right button, and press the left button...

keep looking for those same sellers on the ebay, they do run specials on cluster repairs... i believe they also offer warranty - if you buy a used cluster, no warranty on used cluster...

I will try it. I also read where some guy took cluster out air blew contacts dielectric grease connections and he said his dash came back to life ? sounds too good to be true ?

the pixels are out due to corrosion/poor contact/contamination of the ribbon cables that are inside the assembly - the little "golden" strips on the ends of the ribbon flat cables are getting dirty or corrode... i guess, they are not really gold plated after all... lol... if you are good with those delicate flat cable, you can repair them yourself - i'd rather have someone else repair them...
$250 sounds good in comparison with $700 but I'd still try to negotiate it down - there is about an hour-two worth of work in there...
