New 2000 4.4 owner
Good morning all and thank you for the substantial help that was provided previous to my purchase already. Just picked up a 2000 4.4 with 86k miles and am extremely pleased with it thus far.
Few questions for you all. When cruising at highway speeds the vehicle seems to "surge" almost like it wants to go to a non existent higher gear. No change in RPM, just more of a seat of the pants feeling moreso than anything else. No codes, no weird noises just an odd minimal surge. Any ideas? Also this think tends to drip a ton of condensation for a long period of time when parked after running the AC. Is this normal? The front wheel arches, are they the came between both the normal and IS models? Fluid change, sans oil and coolant, amongst the plethora of records for the vehicle it seems as if the diffs, tranny and TC are all original. Should I jump on this immediately? Thanks again guys! All in all great truck, not quite the M5 or E55 Ive had in the past but I have a plan that will change that |

Water dripping after running AC is pretty normal.
You lost me at the front wheel arch question. Try re-wording if you can. Drive line fluid change is personal reference. I'm changing them in my 4.8iS at 103k miles. ![]()

thanks for the response. on the 4.6/4.8is models the wheel arches or fender flares seem to be the same for the front wheels but extend on the rear, is this correct?

welcome aboard... the arches on the front are the same, unless you have the factory wide-body kit (typical for diesels in europe), rear arches are flared out on "iS" and flare out at the top and then taper in on the diesels (two similar parts for rear arches, the"iS" is $160 and the diesel is $25) with that light "surge" of yours... next time under the car, look at guibo - that rubber flex disk on the driveshaft. could be cracked, worn... check the rear suspension as well, the bushings could be gone... read up on the fluid changes- some people reported problems in tranny after fluid change...

Thanks for the help, it looks like the Lemans style is in order for the rear.
Just to clarify the front arches are the same on the 4.4 and 4.6/4.8is unless it is a euro diesel or wide body? You guys have saved me a few hundred already! |

in installing those arches, you will need to cut the slits on your existing arch - i don't remember if the instructions were included or not... probably not, as they are sold mostly as replacements, and not as retrofits... however, an actual retrofit instruction is floating somewhere for the same lemans flares... i am too lazy - you do the search... lol... make sure you also get the top portion that actually goes onto the metal part of the rear quarter...
good luck... ![]()

When I put them on my old 3.0, I trim off all the tabs and use small screws to attach them to the plastic arch and bumper. No problem for couple years. That's the way Tom (mrbmwX5) put his on also, for many years and miles.
I remove and sold them separately, before I sold my 3.0. Only left a few tiny holes which hardly noticeable. I will get a couple screws to secure the flares on my 4.8iS. There are reports that they flew off. ![]()
