Leather seats discoloration

Hey guys,

I am so pissed off. I took my x5 to get cleaned and now I have some discoloration of my passenger seat. It doesn't come out. I think the car wash idiots put their terry cloth on the seat and whatever was on there bleached or changed the color of the seat.
I have seen some product before that can bring the old color back. Any experience or suggestions?

Also when I bought the car, the driver seat had this darker discoloration

Man Id take it back there and make them fix it.. Probably used a harsh cleaner. Or your seat was evenly dirty, and that is the clean original color.

I would try using a leather cleaner to clean it all evenly.

It happened to my acura then I sprayed a leather cleaner, and let it sit for a bit. So I had to put alot of elbow grease to make it even.

I tried BMW leather conditioner on passenger seat, still the same. Here is a better pic of driver side

It is darker than the original color. I think the owner who I bought it from always used his left hand to get out the seat.

It looks like a bit of color fade on driver side. Which is normal wear. But the dark spot is not sunburned. Its dirt and color can rub off your dark jeans. Conditioner is not a cleaner. U apply and scrub it with a non abrasive brush. Like a toothbrush using a cleaner. Than condition. I would google search DIY leather detail. Either that or take it to a proper detail shop.

Do a test of cleanliness. Take a white towel and wipe your leather steering wheel with a bit of soap and water. See how dirty it is. Every car i bought used is dirty. Except my acura. Which was previously dealer detailed.

Leather gets dirty. Even if its black. Fwiw i wipe my steering and shift knob once a week. :p

USe a leather cleaning brush with a leather cleaner such as Swissvax or Griots interior cleaner first.

And finish up with a leather conditioner/preservative like Lexol.

DO NOT USE ARMOR ALL.. in my experience its cheap greasy shiny stuff that doesnt work well.


BTW conditioner wont do anything as far as cleaning.

Since I posted in the wrong duplicate thread about this, here is my opinion:

why don't you pm our sponsor Phil @ Detailers Domain? He may be able to recommend some products that would help.

Regardless, your seats do look like they have some built up grime on them, I would say you definitely need to do a throrough cleaning of the seats before you put conditioner on them.

I use this to clean my leather and all interior surfaces first, before putting on my conditioner.
(I would apply this and thoroughly wipe down with a MF towel to get all grime off, you might even need a soft bristled brush to really agitate the leather, I say SOFT britstles because the protective layer of the leather is very delicate!)

Most of the guys cleaning their cars like to use a one step product for their seats I've noticed, and you just won't get the results you will get from using a dedicated step to a cleaning product, before applying your conditioner. The one step products are too gentle.

Hell, that "bleach mark" might not even be discoloration, it might be the actual color of your seat since maybe his towel had a strong enough cleaner to cut through all the grime!
