I have toyo Proxes STII on my 20s and love the ride, and they are a quote affordable tire.

Tires aren't something I'd look to be cheap about, the tread wear rating on my toyos are 560, I'm assuming I'll get a few years out of them before replacement!

You should be able to find quite a few tires for less than $1000/set. You can go with the larger tires, but you will find the speedometer reads lower than reality, your gas mileage will decrease even more, you handling will definitely get worse although your ride quality will get smoother, increased wear on suspension parts and drivetrain parts, and increased risk of rubbing on the fenders or wheel liners while turning and/or hitting bumps. You're also likely to find that your treadwear is significantly worse unless you also pay to get an alignment done with the new tires, which would bring the total cost of the cheap oversized tires more inline with the proper size tires.

I just did a search on tirerack for the 275/40 and I see Kumho, Hankook, Bridgestone, BFG, and Yokohama all for $150-200/tire. Pick any of those. You don't do any driving on the track do you? I'm assuming in south Florida, not really many curvy roads where you need sticky summer tires right? If you pick a tire with a higher UTQG rating they will last longer. I'd look at anything with at least a 400 rating. 500 rating even better for longevity. Those are also usually the better riding and quieter tires. If you do any autocrossing or track driving, then you'll want the performance summer tires with the lower number 300 or less. Stiffer tires, more noise, shorter tread life, but WAY stickier.

It doesnt have sport package because i have the Original Window Sticker & I've been to the dealer. I dont have the Steering wheel, Sport seats grill, suspension, wheels nada!

The lawyer asked for a 60 day extension and the only paperwork he was banking on was the "AS IS" document that really goes towards the car breaking not Fraud. This is gonna be my 1st on my own court case. I'm so nervous but I should do fine.

You make a great point. I'm gonna search a bit more. Yes I wont buy a crappy tire i know too well from owning my STi.

Wait who autocrosses an x5! Are you serious?

I want a nice soft quiet ride and the car will never see snow.

Yeah My car whistles like crazy at low RPM's. I'm thinking its the valve gasket.
When I go to BMW for the oil change I'll have that looked into. But i'll repair it myself.

Here is what I think I'm gonna go with this tire

Thanks so much!

Court case is April 28th!
55s will most likely be taller but different brands in the same size can be different heights. How much taller depends on how tall the 40s are as compared to the 55s.

Speedometer reading will be less than you are actually traveling assuming the 55s are taller. The amount is the same at any speed. Once you know how much the speedometer is off it is easy to convert on the fly. The height difference will determine if the speedometer is off a little or a lot.

Another consideration is how wide your rims are. There is a small chance that the 55s will not work on you rims.

As far as mileage, since at any given speed your RPMs will be lower, your mileage should improve at cruising speed as long as the transmission does not downshift to maintain that cruising speed.

Parada Spec-X is damn good tire for the money, I never had a bad Yoko tire. For set of 4 just over 600, nice job, and stock size too.

A generic calculation (non tire model specific) shows an 11.3% difference between the 40 and 55 tires. Also, there is a 3.2 inch diameter difference. Meaning, your car has the potential of being 1.6 inches taller off the ground. Real world, the rolling diameter is less, so it's more likely to be maybe only an inch or so taller.
I agree on highway mileage going up, but all other mileage will go down since you have a larger mass with a larger moment (diameter) you are trying to accelerate. You'll also find that your stopping distance would increase.

He's found some good tires in the correct size anyway so technicalities no longer important, unless you want to discuss the speedometer and odometer accuracy with stock size tires?

I've never heard of whistling from a valve cover, ever. Unless the cover is cracked? I'd expect a check engine light for a vacuum leak large enough to hear. My guess is a pulley is bad. Or an exhaust leak.
