I know E39's use DIS, not sure about E36 but if it does you probably just need the 20 pin round cable for dianostics.

Asking is what I was doing. But yeah, I suppose asking the seller is probably the best route.

BTW, the e36 in question is a '98.

Doesn't have to be, just choose a laptop with a dual core processor at least 1.5 ghz, 1-2 gb of RAM, and at least 50 gb hard drive. Toshiba, Gateway, Acer, laptops maybe?

Hey so i ended up buy the diagnostic software on ebay and the 20pin adapter and i bought a IBM T60 laptop for $100 now what i need to know is how to use it lol is there a user manual on here somewhere?

That kit in the original poster's link isn't a bad deal.

I mean it does include a touch screen PC which is probably 150-200 alone.
