Sounds like you're suffering from the same condition as many new owners that sit in the car after shutting down and then get confuzzled by the sounds and lights still illuminated.

There's a small fan inside the IHKA (AC/heat control panel) that draws air from inside the cabin across a thermistor...this is how the IHKA regulates the air temp you've selected.

This little fan in the IHKA control panel... as well as windows and door actuators (and Nav CPU) all stay AWAKE for 16 minutes after shutting off the engine. If no "calls" on the door handles or the remote buttons on the key are activated within this 16 minute window...the car will go to SLEEP.

If you open a door or window or push a remote key button...then the car will AWAKE and components that are connected to the P-bus will begin to operate in preparations of you getting in the car. The little fan in the IHKA panel, the Nav CPU, door actuators etc (all connected to the GM)...start preparing for take off.

When you went back out to the car and sat in it...you caused the car to AWAKE...so that is why you still hear the little fan in the IHKA control panel. Next time, roll the window down and come back 16 minutes later, or stay inside the car and don't open anything...after 16 minutes...the fan should stop running. But again, if you lift the door handle or unlock the vehicle, or stick the key in the ignition, etc...the little fan will start running again.

If you have an automatic tranny, you should also see a little orange lit illuminated on the gearshift.
