That last post reminded me, 2nd gear syncro was shot at about 15k miles in my '84 CRX too.

He makes good points. My 72 e6 Tii was a one owner 40k car that was 98% perfect. When it was totaled I got a similar but high mile rust bucket that had one issue after another.

Our '90 e30 purchased new was great but the timing belt at 30k in 2000 and other regular maintenance was not cheap.

IMO,there are truisms about motor vehicles. One of them is that at some level of mileage things will wear out or break. Over the years reasonable expectations at what mileage that will begin has increased.

IMO, currently, if you have 80,000mi. or more on a vehicle bought new, less if bought used and even less if a used high performance offering, that is not expecting a major repair is eminent is unrealistic. Anyone claiming poor quality is the reason for any major repair at over 100,000 miles is in la-la land.

I thank my Porsche 914 everyday for teaching me how to turn a wrench, so I can maintain my current vehicles for a lot less.

Of course not, it was all a ruse--throw it out there and watch all the enthusiasts go ballistic and the new owners have a nervous breakdown.

I think the OP bailed on his X.

There are many better choices out there, at least according to TV ads.

The Ford Focus is like driving a racecar......Nothing can break a Subaru says the Mom watching her husband teach the boys how to drive a manual trans, or the Dad finding his 2 toddlers hosing down the interior/cleaning dash electronics with toothpaste, he talks how they'll laugh years from now when his boys are driving it......Nothing beats a RAV4 when it comes to surviving a zombie attack......When you drive a KIA XC or Lincoln you can park it at red carpets and walk into premiers and grand opening without being told to move it......Show up at your high school reunion in a KIA Cadenza and you'll be the center of attention......I could fill a page of this thread with the PUKE Madison Ave spews!

It really sucks driving an X.
