... and as bit of background, I got to wondering about this because I've been getting CC messages at totally random times while driving, and every time I've used INPA to read error memory for the various ECU's, I haven't seen an error that I couldn't explain. My first thought was maybe a low brake fluid message. I've checked every fluid and can't find any problems. Maybe I have a sensor issue... And yes, I hear everyone saying I should get the cluster fixed... :-)

Thanks for the update...and thankfully your Priority warnings aren't the serious ones that require you to shut the engine down immediately.

is it OK to drive one's X5 after removal of the cluster to send off for repair?

Yes you can...BUT...do so with the knowledge that the IKE (instrument cluster) and the LCM (light check module) share some REDUNDANT DATA (mileage/SI info/VIN)...and if the difference between mileage is greater than 120 miles (or 200 km)...the cluster (IKE) will register a data transfer fault code when you reinstall it and it begins to communicate with the LCM.

I would suggest sending the cluster in during a time of the week where it isn't necessary to put a lot of mileage on the X. For instance, if you send it off on a Thursday evening...you can drive to work on Friday, then park it Sat/Sun...and drive to work Monday...and perhaps by Tuesday, the cluster might be returned. This is in the case that you don't have a long commute from home to work. Obviously, the ideal is to relegate the X to very short trips, as not to exceed 120 miles, when the cluster isn't installed is preferable.

See data point #5 in the info below:
