Seems as if your switch row got replaced some time before you got the car. ODD...

Isn't tire pressure monitoring on these done by wheel speed sensors rather than TPMS transmitters? Our '04 has ordinary rubber valve stems and the pressure monitoring works. My E60 ('08 535xi) does have the TPMS transmitters.

I've been doing some more reading and I think you might be right...

The tire in brackets, if it's the logo I'm thinking of is usually the warning light for brake linings.

The OP never said what model that unit came from...but from my years on the e38 & e39 forum...that button is not for cooling...its the "booty massaging" button for the ACTIVE COMFORT SEAT option.

You can see it right next to the heated seat buttons in the image below taken of an e38 750iL:

... And below is the same buttons but optioned in an e39)

Here's how it works:

The Active Comfort Seat uses a sophisticated system of motors and hydraulic chambers to move the seat up and down by 15 mm in a programmed fashion every 60 seconds.

The seat base contains two hollow containers filled with an ecologically safe liquid. These containers are alternately filled and emptied hydraulically to cause a raising and lowering of the right and left sides.
Over the 60-second cycle the Active Comfort Seat imparts a gentle rocking movement of the pelvis. The movement is almost imperceptible.

The movement keeps the spine in motion, exercises support muscles, improves blood circulation and helps avoid tenseness, fatigue and backache.

Ahhhh I didn't realize that could also be from an e38:39 twin. Makes sense.

FYI my button for the tires lights up the tire indicator if i hold it for 10 seconds. I'm guessing it's a reset/clear for the passive TPMS system

Hydraulic seat massaging system...seriously? Good to know. Thanks for the clearing it up! (as always Qs7!)
