Yep. I knew I had to put a decent amount into it. This wasn't part of the plan though. And it's a daily driver too, so me taking it out for a couple of weeks to do the work likely won't happen. I'll see what the indy says for timing and costs. It won't be pretty.

No it's DEFINITELY not pretty...mine told me he would have to send the heads out for rebuilding. Whole job would be around $6000. Then he suggested thicker oil and an additive to swell the seals. It is a bit better - still smokes some after a long idle but no other time. I will get the additive name - it's on the work order (if I can read his handwriting)...

Curious on additive too. Mine is very early stages, so it may be a viable option. Otherwise, I'll see if my indy has done the AGA method. I'll see if he recommends any additive as well. The more I think on this, the more I may look for a low mileage spare motor, get it on a stand, do all the bloody stem seals, timing chain guides, seals, VCGs, etc. Then, when this one really goes, I'll just do a motor swap. Probably cheaper than going into this one 3 or 4 times. I'll see what the local BMW dismantler has in stock. Should be a fun path to explore.
