Goodbye X5 :(

I have been very busy lately but I recently lost my 04 X5 one month ago before Thanksgiving to a driver with no driver's license, insurance, the car is not registered to him, and is in America illegally

I was driving down the famous route Pacific Coast Highway in Southern California around 12:30 A.M when a 99' Audi A4 speeds out of a residential street (I estimate 30mph) , running a stop sign and drives right in front of me. I swerved from the second lane into the third lane but the Audi still made impact.

Contact was made onto my passenger side from the front bumper all the way to my back bumper, with no intrusion into the passenger compartment. My passenger rear tire took the blunt of the impact and my tire exploded. , which shifted the entire suspension. The front suspension was shifted to an 85 degree angle to the right while the back suspension was at a 70/75 degree angle to the right. The bottom B-pillar was bent as well.

My insurance paid me out at 14k for the X5 having under 90k miles.

I am a college student and my parents decided to give the X5 to me as a gift for it's superb perfection in a crash. I am sure glad I was driving an X5 but I am pissed I just bought new Michelin tire with only 4k miles put on and put 2k into repairs (Cooling fan, front right and left axle, window liner, new battery, etc...) these past to months just to lose it.

I do have a spare tire(Used from my sister who estimated 30k miles), towing hook, trunk privacy cover if anyone lives in the SoCal area.

Glad you are ok. Be thankful you have parents that worry about your safety (and gave you a nice BMW to boot!).

Check out some of the low craigslist prices on X5's now. I've seen 80k mile '04 or '05 going for under $10k. They are going for cheap right now, but you've got understand these beasties require a little extra care and feeding. Helps if you know how to do the work yourself.

Sorry to hear. Glad you were OK.
BMW knows how to build very safe vehicles. I'm glad to own them and know that my wife and kids would be safe in such a vehicle. I hear so many stories of people walking away from some pretty bad crashes, in an E53 and E39.

Sorry to hear that!

Check with your insurance company about reimbursement for recently installed parts/maintenance. Not sure how it is down south, but up here if your vehicle is totaled, and you're found not at-fault, you can submit any bills you have for recent parts/labor for reimbursement (within reason of course). You may be able to squeeze a but more from the insurance company!

Sucks, hope you find something you like to replace it.

I already accepted the payment sadly, but I will take this as a lesson if I ever get into another car crash. I was so focused on my finals I did not do any research.

I am going to fix up a 06 ML350 for family trips and buy a JDM car for commuting.

Thanks for finding that offer but I plan on switching to MB. The driving dynamics aren't up to par with BMW's but I got a sweet deal and piece of mind of the car's full history (clean title) with simple electrical malfunctions such as lift-gate

I just wanted to thank this forum for the solutions it provided when my X5 had problems.

Once again I do have a few spare parts I do not need and I will periodically check for a month or two if anyone needs these parts in the SoCal area.

BMW's are true beasts in handling and safety but I will be moving onto a ML350 and hopefully a SL550 or AMG version once I finish my chemical engineering degree!
