was it E30cabrio who went to meal-piece route with the tow package? it might be more beneficial to go with a brand new tow package for about $500 in parts (if you can find one), as this way you will have all the pieces together... But, if you know what to pull from a junked X5 with the tow package, go for it... might be much easier than i imagine...

Nevertheless, this is one immaculate truck, with manufacturing date of 7/2006, definitely one of the last IS's made... I was looking for something like that in 2012...

10/6/2006 to be exact, I stand corrected.

with LE81000 being the first 4.8is built, and LE85019 being the last, that means there were only 248 4.8is's built after mine at LE84771. (4,019 total e53 4.8is built in those 3 years.) That's pretty cool to know!

those are left hand drive 4.8is - there are also right hand drive units out there along with some press cars (we don't count them)... there was a thread somewhere here about a year and half ago about the count of the units...

You have a VIN from a RHD? If so I could figure it out.

I was forced to buy the pieces. My local dealer "searched" and found none available. I called the dealers in the list, a few said local pickup only, the rest wanted almost 200 to ship.

I sort of had no choice but to get the parts as I found them, almost one at a time.

I did end up under 400.00 but the hassle & time spent were not worth saving a few dollars if I had the full package available, I'd absolutely get it.
