^ that seems logical, that way it has somewhere to escape quicker, which means less condensation.

Heated wrap does not permanently remedy this issue. Had another failure earlier this week when temps were -20 overnight. Thankfully, last occurrence was just a few weeks short of two years ago so this one is on the dealer. And they were kind enough to provide a fairly decent loaner.

It aint ten outside when this happens though - its usually minus 20 or colder - pretty extreme

When you say "no oil in it it still runs good" what exactly do you mean? That your engine is not using any oil despite having 224,000 miles on the clock?

The issue is in the design! Period end of story. Bmw messed up. Nothing you do other than changing it to the 5 or 7 series system will really work. The ice accumulates in the back cover of the intake in the elbow. This is the problem! You have to get that water away from there. The cars were fine. That's the fix. Again. That's... The.... Fix. Thank you.

Ricky Bobby will become famous soon enough
Ok so let's have the part numbers for conversion to the 5 or 7 series system, is that a BMW authorized fix?
