Yeah it did, but prior to that, I was already doing the 'secret' method. That's what I meant. I still let it vent on short drives jic.

No, it doesn't happen overnight. It builds up over time, when the moisture exceeds the oils's ability to keep it in suspension. Think of it as an overdraft on your engine account balance. Get it hot and get the moisture level back down. If it goes on long enough, it will form a paste. If that goes on long enough it will build up under the valve cover. i don't usually idle from the cold start... well.. i'll stand corrected - i start the engine, it revs up to 900-1000 RPMs, i wait for about 15-35 seconds for the fixed values in the system to be substituted by the actual sensor readings (or so i think) and the RPMs drop to normal idle level of 600-700... then i take off...

I'd like to think of this "boot up" process as of a waking up - when I wake up in the mornings, I need a few moments to remember, who I am , where I am at, who is that laying next to me, so i would not by accident call somebodys name out to my wife!!!!! I know that consequences will be less than desirable therefore i allow the car to properly "wake up" too!!!

I am sure that everyone has its own ways on trying to manage this problem with our engine. I have owned my X5 for 9 years now and replaced the CCV once. I use my X5 to commute to work and it is only 15 minutes driving distance, not enough to warm up the engine and I spend months without going for a long drive. As stated in the last comment, The only thing I do now every month(winter) is disconnect the hose, picture #8 from the cover and suck in most of the mayo from the cover and the CCV hoses.
