I have several projects going on at the same time (DVR cameras, rewiring reverse camera from wireless to wired operation, V1 wiring, Cellphone on nav screen), was hoping to tackle some of them while off work, but it is hard to work with one functioning arm... and on top of that, it is too cold... lol... the lack of arm mobility pushed me into the power trunk "project"... besides, my 7-year old can open the trunk but can't reach to close it, so i have to get out of car everytime she pulls her karate gear from the trunk... |

How long before you can use your arm?

I am getting old - arthritis... it was a routine surgery, nothing extraordinary, no suspect chases in the X, no cliff-hanging by the tips of the fingers, no stray bullets from enemy fire... boring... lol...
so, to entertain myself, i invent more projects to tackle!!! Last edited by TerminatorX5; 02-07-2014 at 08:22 PM. |

so, i found this Marine Hatch lifters - Electric Hatch Lifts 12 and 24-Volt
does anyone on this board have any experience with these? the ones of interest are 20762 and 20764 models... the mounting points are not plug-n-play, but that is a secondary issue... they are pricey but for the time being we are looking to establish a general possibility... |

Here is another boat hatch lifter - Ulysses 1812...
the original lifter (gas strut in the car) is rated at 520 Newtons, which is 52 kgs - with 2 gas shocks the lifting/holding power is at 100 kgs... never thought that the rear lid weighs that much that it needs 52 kgs to overcome its weight... are there any boaters on this forum? |

Yes, but I haven't used a powered strut on a boat.
I knew of two being used on a van conversion with a powered wheelchair lift. Side access, two swing doors, Chevy van. They had to be sequenced to open and close the two doors in order. The problem was that the last door wouldn't latch consistently, as the door needed to be 'slammed' and not just pulled to. Soft close latches that pulled the door in would have fixed that. The quick fix was a weight inside the door to give it some more momentum, and then as I recall, a circuit that lowered the power windows a couple of inches as part of the closing routine, to relieve internal air pressure and get the door to latch reliably. It had to be reliable, as the driver could not reach over and close it. It was all too complicated. And I can't imagine adding that sort of complexity to a vehicle that doesn't need it. Use your other arm.

Once you finish this project, i think it would be really cool if you program your key to open the power lift gate with the remote!
