When using the VR feature...there are specific words/phrases that it recognizes...also based on which gen you have...as TX5 mentions...it may not recognize all of them if you don't have the "notebook" or "nav" recognition.

In my situation, the phonebook from my Samsung never fully uploads...but I was able to SAVE frequently called numbers (favorite rib & pizza joints and restaurants etc for carry-out...and oh yeah...family members )... and use the VR to CALL NAME, or CALL Nbr. It's very Star Trekkish...in that I feel like I'm speaking with the ship's computer.

This might be a stupid statement.
Did you try to pair the phone again, especially if you pulled the battery. I have to re-pair my 04 every time I do an iPhone update or restore.
Are you sure bluetooth is turned ON on your iPhone, "settings", "bluetooth"
all assuming you have an iPhone as your post is saying tap talk from iPhone.

Yeah I'm across all of that. The phone can't find the car, ie the car isn't broadcasting a connection. A battery pull and checking the wire connection is the only thing that could save the module right now.

Got the ULF unit out. Is there anything obvious I should be looking for to know if it's cooked? There's no water in the area around it and everything seems ok from the wires. Just cooked and time to get a new one??

Just powered it up again and I still get the same message. Probably just cooked.

it can be fried but before writing the unit off, let's try to pair to the unit - do you have another BT phone you can try to pair to ULF?

I'll try that when my wife gets home.

BTW a guy in Europe is selling an early model ULF with updated software. Would that be the same as getting a 13th version, ie is both hardware and software updates or just software?

Ok. So random as hell. Took the ULF out and took it to a specialist. Very nice guy. He hooked up the diagnostics and said that the ULF is talking however when it is plugged in, there's no red light on the monitor to say it's recognised not does it go into pairing mode at all. We connected another ULF and after clearing a few faults it worked fine. I wonder what would cause the diagnostics to think it was operating ok but it not be operating ok in "the real world". He's going to try and fix it, otherwise I'm going to have to buy another one.
