i have put together the relays for the mirror controls. the project is mid-stream, but here are the parts used ( i ordered double of everything, as i anticipate the same relay bank for another sub-project within the car):

2 x Power Relay Coil 12VDC 12V DPDT Contact Rating 5A 240VAC 24VDC | eBay

2 x Power Relay Coil 12VDC 12V SPDT Contact Rating 10A 250VAC 30VDC | eBay

5pcs DC 12V Delay Timer Switch Adjustable Relay Module 0 to 20 Second NE555 | eBay

I have not tested the relay bank - i ordered a 5VDC(!) SPDT relay by mistake, so I am waiting for the correct relay (12VDC) to come...

On the picture,

the black wire - ground

the red wire - battery +12V

the green wire - trigger wire...

the wires for the actual mirrors are not soldered in yet, as I did not have an adequate colored wires - you can see 2 vacant pins on the white "underbelly" of the DPDT relay (between two blue relays).

next step is to identify a good box to contain the relays and good set of connectors... I will keep you guys posted...

Lovely!!!! Just lovely.

If only I could persuade my mirrors to fold, when I press the switch, I would do this mod! Alas, it seems my passenger mirror is gone and doesn't fold, so neither of them does (at least that's what the BMW mechanic told me).

But Iv'e bookmarked this thread for future reference.

Nice mod, but that's a lot of in and out cycles, most of them break or are broken just from using them a few times a year. I'm guessing yours won't be working too much longer from repeated in/out cycles.

DP, got a wiring question...

as i studied the wiring for the door modules, it seems that i can't get away from pulling wires through the door boot to the main body - my question, do you have any pointers on how to do it, before i devour the wires???

I was hoping to see full-time 12V (which is present in the door) and K72 "closed circuit cutoff relay" feed (which is not present) and this way I would just build two relay banks and hide them inside the door cavity under the door switches... since there is no ignition nor K72 (power-on-LAN wake-up signal) power feed inside the doors, I have to run wires from the door to the car... wonder if you could shed some light into this process...

Hi TerminatorX5,

Reviving an old thread here I know but... Did you ever run these wires? I am about to attempt this mod so any advice would be great! Thanks

You guys, I am about 90% sure you can code the mirrors to fold with ignition key. I didn't because I don't want them folding all the time.

Can you elaborate on this. I’m interested.

I can't remember which module it is in but I am pretty sure it is a coding option. Hopefully someone else who has done it, or remembers seeing it, could chime in.

I was looking into this as well! The schematic on the first page won't load unfortunately. It's probably the GM module, if it can be coded?
Has anyone else done this mod?
