If we go through the trouble of removing the whole knuckle, then we have access and can drive the ball joint out from the top with your tool of choice (BFH and drift, air chisel, rental ball joint press, etc.). No idea how well it works, but it is from BMW TIS, which means BMW service center uses this special tool to remove the joint, so I believe it should works very well.
