weird pieces found in oil filter???

Has anyone ever seen these pieces before? When I removed my oil filter and cap, these 3 pieces fell out. I don't see them anywhere in lubrication diagrams. I'm wondering if these could be from the oil pump or something.
After all these years of oil changes, it went from a routine maintenance job to trying to figure out where the heck the parts came from. My wife took it to a local shop for the last oil change, so I'm scratching my head.

Looks like the oil check valve, stops oil draining back into the sump when you shut it off. Read this thread, and see the links, for more details.
