No, I didn't have the special tool and, yes, I wish I did. You're a lot better off drawing the splined end through the hub than trying to beat it through the hub.

- BTW, the Special BMW tool (PN 33 2 110)costs some $300 from BMW dealer, not worth it IMHO for something you may (or may not) need every 10 years.
I love this homemade tool over paying $300 for the OEM tool. Just as a thought, I have been on other boards before where there was a section for tool rentals - people who bought the OEM tools cold recoup their cost by renting them out other forum members for low (but reasonable) prices - everybody wins. Not sure if you have that here, just a thought.

I sent one to member davintosh a few months back along with the wheel bearing press kit, we basically split the cost of it and i used it first when I did my bearings and CV boots. find a member that is doing a job the same time as you and see if you can share the cost of a tool or rent the tool together if he's local.
