Is it THAT bad? Thought those engines were developed by Alpina...

Take this as a precaution, For your review
Enjoy your new SUV (do thorough inspection yearly and go from there)

My dad sold his 7 series with N62, he got sick of it (money pit)
But it is a case to case basis.

Like other owners experiencing THESE ISSUES to name a few common pain points CCV, transmission , coolant expansion tank, pan roof , door carrier or actuator , window regulator and many more
AND some are dodging it.

Congrats ! I have N62 and i love it ....i feel that we put too much negativism on that engine...i have mine with 80miles on the clock and with the exception of intermediate lever common issue (not the end of the world) the rest is peace of cake so far....Enjoy the Ultimate machine !!!!

80k is not bad at all with minimal issue(s) like you said.

The real test is at 120,000 miles and on ward

I will check back you in 4 years. Keep your repairs logs up to date and let's compare notes this will be fun! N62

I have a laundry lists of repairs and preventive maint on my SUV and I'm within the the same range approaching ~ 81k miles

Welcome to the family. Don't listen to all the nay sayers with their little six bangers that turn into oil pumpers after a few winter days. They are still trying to figure out all the issues even though those "little bitty" engines have been around for 20+ years. Envy

The 4.8is V8 is the way to go. Great push on wide open stomps and a nice tone from the pipes. The four wheel air suspension is a known weak link from BMW after they purchased Range Rover. We in turn got that pig installed in the X5 4.8is. There are aftermarket companies that make air struts that work PERFECTLY. (Test, don't guess).

Do your Inspections, replace all fluids as I am sure no one else ever did. Preventive maintenance will go a LONG way in preventing major issues down the road. Leverage this forum for tech insight and pitfalls to avoid and you will be in good shape. Open eyes and good attitude will help a lot in your ownership.
Nothing great comes in life cheap and easy...oh wait your in Las Vegas where all does come easy.

Now if you can vote someone else in office for US Senate besides Harry "the undertaker".

and please show us some pics!

LOL!! This is a beast of a machine. That first thunderous crank and run I thought something was wrong....

Yeah figured that about rover and BMW getting infused with that "technology". Having had an older rover, airbags were a nightmare.

Reid does look like the dude from the phantasm movie! We just don't have a good candidate to run against him. Angle was close, until she talked. (She needed a policy and procedure coach/sit in talker)

4.6is has insight from Alpina on how to bore out the M62.

N62 is not hailed as having input from Alpina. Same motor as was in E60's and E65.

I have to be honest here, yes my head turns every time I see a well maintained V8's ( the sound ) .. But that envy goes for 10sec, reality kicks in money pit unless you are mechanic / getting greasy is your hobby...

Don't isolate the i6 for the condensation paste, it can and will happen to v8 as well (only easier to replace the CCV, that's the only advantage )

Post when you reach 120, 000 - 150, 000 miles ...let's see who smiles the i6 or the v8 owner ...

LOL. How does this thread turn into a V8 vs. I6 debate?
The trend of welcoming new owners with negativities should be stopped!

bigmixxx, your picture link is broken.
