injectors were at around -1.5 to +1.5 when car was ideal, the Vac Pipe was disconnected at the time

using grade 5w 35 meets ll04 spec

it does not smoke when engine warm or accelerating
only when starting first time or if left for a few hours

full diag on engine done and no issues seen

- What i will do in next few days is take it back to garage and get him to provide readings with the vac pipe connected
- I will also disconnect the MAF and advise of any issues

- new EGR due for delivery next week so once fitted will check again

Vortex was changed by me but i have checked it and it is all sealed and fitted with no leaks

Good feedback!
Smoke only when it starts or cold ,could be leaking injector , assuming glow plugs are fine!Could be oil accumulation somewhere, also!
You must have the egr vac connected and egr fully functioning before any diagnostics are carried out as if its disconnected it will give you incorrect readings,on MAF ,for example!
The ECU will look for a loss of air pressure when EGR is activated and if its disconnected ,this loss of air pressure obviously isnt present and hence the wrong readings.
Keep us posted

cool what i will do is once EGR valve arrives take it to the garage and get readings for the injectors again

im guessing there no need to disconnect the MAF for testing now?

is there anyway of checking for leaking injector or will it require a bench test for all injectors

seen some places that charge around £25 for testing each injector on bench and rebuild if necessary

ideally rather than paying £150 and finding out no issue would prefer knowing if there a easier way to check

all glow plugs are fine

Yes ,you can disconnect the MAF now and test. This is just to see if the MAF has a problem.Upon disconnecting ,the MAF ,the ECU will obviously not find it and it will reset engine parametres to default. So if the car is better ,then you know its the MAF.

Perform the injector test again and write down the values,to see if one is worst than others and this will be the one that you need to remove ,check and clean and if you not confident ,remove the injectors yourself and take them to a place that you mentioned .
The injectors can also be cleaned by you .Those high parameter numbers are the small orifices at the end of the injetor that get blocked and they just need cleaning with a wire brush .My injector number 4 was visibly blocked at +6 parametre! What it was doing was dripping rather jetting!
The other side of the injectors that can go wrong are the "o"rings on top which will also drip diesel to cylinder but really only on high mileage cars.

Ok guys some feedback

These are my test results so far

1- EGR connected, MAF disconnected = wow some serious power, was little smoke on acceleration but guessing due to EGR
2 - EGR & MAF connected = No smoke on acceleration but definitely slower

I also have following error message 4501 MAF controlled EGR too high

This has been on since purchase and even if deleted keeps coming back hopefully new EGR next week will resolve this

What I have done now is kept EGR connected and MAF and had the adaptations of MAF reset via software (can see a difference in power but not as much as when MAF was disconnected)

Now onto the Injectors

Checked all injectors and there were some oil residue around number 3, 5 & 6

I suspect 5&6 is due to oil overspill as it's near oil cap and maybe 3 due when I installed vortex, checked vortex and no oil leaks etc

Also checked injector settings with there codes on ecu and all ok

Injector values at idle

1 -1.25
2. -1.06
3. 0.8
4. 1.16
5.-0.42
6. 0.26

Speed 1500rpm

1. -0.87
2.-1.46
3. 1.45
4. 0.59
5. -0.56
6. 0.41

Speed 2500rpm

1. -0.85
2. -1.03
3. 0.37
4. 1.43
5. 0.23
6. 0.69

What your thoughts guys???

Have two more test to do but have to wait for a while as smoke only happens on start up when left for a while so will feedback on results of

1. Start up with EGR and MAF connected after adaption reset
2 . Start up with EGR connected and MAF disconnected
3. Start up wilt both disconnected

The increase in power with the MAF disconnected is a symptom of a bad MAF. I would try to eliminate the MAF from the equation by cleaning it with MAF cleaner. It doesn't always work but it's worth a try.
