Further info to provide you Powers1

I have disconnected the MAF and EGR and left car overnight upon starting the car this morning there was still smoke.

Is disconnecting the MAF the same as cleaning it as it's not connected its not operational apologise for sounding silly?

I will be sourcing a new MAF they around £100 in UK however my friend advises he maybe able to get one on discount for £65

Another thing I noticed when MAF disconnected on every start up if car left for over hour it smokes

However, when MAF connected it only smokes on start up if left for a few hours or overnight

Smoke is white with tint of blue

Could this actually be valve seals faulty and roughly what is cost for this?

Hi Kam,
Sent email
It just provies that the MAF is faulty.Only after fitting a new MAF can you make progress and establish if its something else!Get a new one and make sure it has a reference number that is accepted for adaptation by Bmw software! That cheap one ,may not?Try to source a Bosch MAF.

Regarding the "something else",have you got your mechanic to check the vacuum from EGR solenoid?
Sorry, forgot to confirm .your EGR is vaccum operated like mine!Could be both the EGR valve itself and the solenoid thats letting in exhuast gases when it shouldnt and is faulty.

Valve seals!!! Possible but your car isnt exactly high mileage and at the mom ,you know you have a MAF issue and EGR.My advice is to sort that first.

You dont have to waste money on new EGR.Have the vaccum test ythe solenoid by the mechanic to see if holds vacuum. If it doesnt ,no problem, what you do is ask the mechanic to block to vac pipe that goes to solenoid (he will need to look under manifold) .If the solenoid holds vaccuum (reading should be 350-450 HG)Then you can simply just block the vac pipe that goes to EGR valve,(use a small bearing on the vac pipe on the valve itself).
Just do it in a way that you can connect it in future for diagnostics.

The blue tint smoke ,you can do a simple test!
On normally aspirated cars it would be valve or piston rings, but on turbocharged cars cars you have the turbo. To eliminate being the turbo seals, you need to disconnect the breather pipe that goes from the vortex filter you fitted and the air pipe on turbo! You have no problem leaving it disconnected for testing as this only breathes out!I want you to warm car up or drive for 5-10 mins and then stop car and leave it a few hours and then start it and see if you still get smoke! If you do ,its turbo seals ,since you disconncted engine breather!

Do these motors suffer from the bad valve seals like the N62 does?

Not at all. They smoke either a partially blocked PCV or from turbo seals.
