New to me X5

I just picked up an 04 3.0 with NAV/Premium package, shouldn't I be able to use bluetooth with my cell phone.

Ricky Bobby will become famous soon enough
Not if its an early '04 production (ask PropellerHead as I think he dealt with this)

If I recall correctly you need to retrofit some parts to make the bluetooth work.

Although you picked a vehicle marque that was one of the first to "integrate" BT as standard equipment (or as an option)...it depends on your build date. BT was first offered across all BMW models (I believe) starting in the 2005 model year...but not all models got it right away. The e53 X5 got it late in 2004...which was after the (sept/2004) debut of the 2005 model year. See the info in the articles below.

Or, you may have to look at what's installed in your vehicle...a previous owner (PO) may have upgraded the BT (TCU) module...where all you would need is the Pass Key Code to pair a BT phone to the X5.

Even though BT can now be had in a Ford Fiesta (is that Ford's base model now?)...this was not the case 10 years ago in 2004. Sometimes we can forget how fast technology advances.

Once you retrofit the AUX (pre-wired 3-pin connector is curled up and taped up behind the nav monitor), and have the BT unit plugged into the AUX, you will have to manually switch your INPUT from RADIO/CD/TAPE to AUX, in order to talk on the phone.
The cables in your link will NOT work in your car, you need different part number - there are many threads (i have a thread about the AUX too - I built my own cable from $10 worth of parts - http://www.xoutpost.com/961741-post33.html) talking about it...

You should check your car for the BT module - go to the trunk, pop the left side cover, you will see the nav computer... in that pocket you should have your amp/DSP unit, a CD changer if you have one, an SES/voice recognition module if you got one, and deep downthere, you might have either a TCU unit (it is the SOS module) or a BT unit... Those two modules look very similar, as a matter of fact, some TCU units WITHOUT the BT ability even sport BT passkey, which totally confuses people... (some people were hoping that either hardware mod or a firmware flash could "activate" hidden BT function, so far I have not heard of any success stories about it)

Thanks I ordered the specific cable that goes with the nav unit from turner motorsports. I will start there, it was a lot easier dropping the alpine receiver with everything in our 95 325i cab
