Lost AC aircon after engine repair

I had my upper oil pan, timing chain, chain guide, vanos solenoids and thermostat replaced. And now after 2 weeks I pick up the car I dont have AC. Its not blowing hot air (so its not the heater control valve) but its feels like theres no freon thats how warm it feels.

Was there something in the course of the repair that could have caused it to go bad? the mechanic said the only thing that touched the AC system was that the belt was removed to access the front cover.

Im not having a swell time with my X5
