there is a break in the line - the brake wear sensors are just a fancy name for a piece of wire that keeps the electrical loop in the IKE closed, once the pad is worn too thin, the rotor cuts through the sensor, the loop is broken, the brake pad warning comes on... so, in other words, you have a break in continuity between pins 4 and 20 of the IKE connector X10114 (blue 26-pin connector on the back of the cluster). those two pins are voltage and return for BOTH break pad wear sensors, which are connected in-line...
In the event of a break in the line connection from the IKE sensor output to the IKE sensor input, the brake lining wear detection function sends an I-bus telegram to the LCM. When this signal is received, a corresponding message is sent from the LCM to the IKE where it is shown in the text display. The general brake warning lamp is not switched on for this purpose.
