that's what i thought, Q7 - that the pyro charge is the big, fat double cable junction at the (+) battery terminal... but on the pictures the burned/discolored piece of cable is at a different junction... i have to look at mine and see if i have that on mine - i do not recall seeing something like that...

DSM, since both monitors are not showing the picture, question comes up if the nav computer is functioning - can you confirm that it is working? if i am not mistaken, the nav computer is wired via fuse 72 - if the comp is not coming to life, it might be blown... if the nav computer is spinning, we might have other issues with the comp...

i am hoping that we would be able to revive the factory screen and try the timeout countdown...

It looks like the positive repair cable. The original cable does not have the splice. If the BST is replaced, you get that splice joint.

Before going to the stealer try 0000. thats what my code was, I was installing a subwoofer to the positive terminal and maybe that triggered the car to go into an antitheft mode? My pixels on the radio are all messed up so i just played around with and it ended up being 0000 and she started right up. worth a shot before stealer prices.

I just called the BMW dealer and the battery terminal safety switch .. It's a $500 part..
So I'm going to look around locally and see if I can find a used one or something on Craigslist. I'm just a little worried that I will buy a used one that is bad. I'm just trying to avoid the $500 price tag on a new one.

You only need the + cable from the top post to this conection.
http://www.ecstuning.com/Search/SiteSearch/12421439559/

BATTERY CABLE

Brand:
ES#:30129
Mfg#: 12421439559

Ships in 5 days $75.81

Before you buy, test to see if voltage is going past that burnt mark. Voltmeter or a 12 volt testlight will work.

Since pyrotech is used to separate the cable, wouldn't the small cable NOT have power since electrical power will only be present in the event the srs module register an accident?

Careful with playing around if you don't know what you are doing or you may end up setting off some airbags. I think it's time to bring it in to a professional.

Perhaps the 2 illustrations below will help with how the BST (battery safety terminal) is set up...and what is disconnected when the "pyro" is activated and separates when an accident occurs:

The BST is designed to disconnect the starter & alternator so that the engine shuts down...but the smaller cable runs to the high amp fuse distribution center, and the other fuse locations (front & rear)...which allows other electrical functions to work (doors, locks, windows, SOS ASSIST, phone, etc). So in an accident, the engine may shut down, but allows for other electronics for making emergency phone calls, or operation of the doors and windows (like if the vehicle ends up in water...you have a few minutes that the windows can still be rolled down):
