The car stays level at the height we set it - this time 707 & 709mm

The pump is still pumping to just over 13bars (like before)....tomorrow I will try to find out what the latest fault codes are... grrrr!
At least one thing is eliminated.

We seem to be having the exact same problem. Apparently when the module goes bad it can trigger the low tire pressure light. If you are having the same problem as me when you look at the voltage levels with the diag SW you will likely see that the voltage for the front left is quite off from the others. The misread of that voltage tells the system it is off too far from spec, thus the "deviation" error and the system shutting down. I replaced that sensor to no avail. All of the homework I have done so far points to the module after that. I have looked around and tried to see if anyone has ever repaired one of these (GM and DSC modules are repairable). Currently have it apart and seeing if I can trace the input back to a BJT that can be replaced. If this fails I am saving for the module.

Like I said it most likely is a module malfunction at this stage. I'm lucky the PO replaced mine before selling the car to me, its north of $700 USD

Latest madness!

OK here is the latest madness.
Was back on the car problems today (for 3 hours).

I drove down the road (started with car level) and whilst on a 5 mile journey back to the garage the 'rear end' sank right down (for the 1st time) and went really 'badly bumpy' ... the terrible ride was the 1st thing I noticed!

Do you think I could have damaged the bags driving for the last mile like this?

As you know although my compressor was showing over 13bars pressure I replaced the seals the other day just in case!

After the 'ship sank' we put on the diagnostic today to find that the pressure had dropped to 7 bars.

I took a risk and put the old seal back in - immediately it came back up to normal pressure. phew!

On clearing the usual codes...
#74 EHC: Accumulator pressure remains constant (accumulator filling requested)
&
#32 EHC: CAN Bus
the car would raise & lower (but only the front) this time!

The rear will not move now - do you think I damaged the rear bags...?

If so there is a garage selling some new ones on e-bay but they keep asking me if mine is a 'Sport' ? Is that what the 's' stands for in the 4.8is?
I don't think mine says 'sport in any of the documentation?

His part numbers are
37126750355 & 37126750356 (Rear Left & Rear Right) Sport

BMW here will not tell me the correct part no's for mine on the phone grrrr!

There is another new pair on there with the same description but with part no. 37121095579 (left) & 37121095580 (right)

Pretty confused now.

Could it be a sensor at the rear and not the bags?....is there one or two sensors?

Either way I seem to be worse off than when I started at present!
Any wisdom for me out there...
:-)
M

Are your rear bags original?

Before replacing them I would verify by a leak test that they aren't leaking. If the ride height is not dropping overnight, the bags are probably fine in the rear.

You need non-sport bags for the 4.8iS because of the articulation of the EHCII system, you can get replacements from Arnott Industries in the states with a lifetime warrantied for $200 plus shipping.

Check the linkage on the rear sensor arm to be sure it is not broken, or frozen rusted stuck in place. If it is good, then I would verify the linkage on the sensor arm is good, as well as no leaks on the rear bags (you can almost tell visually).

If you have no issues there, you are not throwing ride height sensor faults, so I would say your issue is the module.

Did you run a ride height re-calibration after clearing the module of faults?

Hi - once again - great reply - thank you!
The bags are original - I thought that they had been replaced but it seems that BMW had replaced the fronts (before I owned the car) and not the rear! My mistake as I thought that they had all been done!
I will on your advice...
Check the linkage on the rear sensor arm to be sure it is not broken, or frozen rusted stuck in place.
Will also check for leaks
The Arnott Industries bags here in the UK are around £120 a bag - as opposed to £210 at BMW! I can get free carriage so that is pretty good!
Will get back - with thanks...

No problem. If you find out the rear is leaking you need Arnott parts A-2501 and A-2502 for the rear bags.

Good luck!

THE SUSPENSION LIVES!

Hi friends - it lives!
Firstly - thanks to all of you out there who gave me some sound advice!
Enabled me to eliminate some things and spend less time paying someone to check through.

My local mechanic heard of a small garage (...'shop' for USA friends) who could fix these.
I drove at 35mph the 20 miles to the workshop & left the sad looking sagging lop-sided example with the guy.

He disconnected everything - checked all connections - then went through the set-up from start to finish.
Whilst on the train on the way home he called to say that it was already done and ready for pick up!

I could not believe it!!!!!!!
Total cost £45 + VAT (tax) .... total bill £54

It took him an hour to do connections & he then re ran the set-up sequence - he said that the whole system was totally screwed up from start to finish! The car thought that it was level and kept trying to default at a non-level setting/ride height. Obviously had a bunch of new codes where I had disconnected the compressor for the journey there but mainly had to be set up as if it were new. He thinks that the diagonal (deviation ride level) problems first shut the system down.

With rear bags checked (as front ones had been done by BMW 2 years back on the service history) I drove it home on the motorway at the correct height at 69.999 MPH (yeah right)!
Ha!

Am more than slightly relieved! Great result - the guy is a genius!
If any UK friends have this problem I can give you his details.

Till next time & thanks

M

Excellent to hear! I felt like a re calibration would fix you up, enjoy your working air suspension!

as RB did the same thing to mine..Re-calib first then see if it works.....im still skeptical about thses bags now...as Air Management would be better so no more dropping or sagging bags..

'ere we go again!!

Hi all
Thanks for your help last time...

Well the 'Inactive' message is back after 4 months of not seeing it!

This time the diagnostic says .....
ACCUMULATOR FAULT
If it is cleared it re-appears after a few days....

Could this be a weak compressor?

The car is sitting level - no sag this time...

Any ideas?

V. best
