Replacement tires

I have a 2001 4.4 sports have had a couple sets of Michelin Diamaris and looking for cheaper alternative that will ride nearly as smoothly? Any suggestions would be great. I love in NYC but don't do a ton of driving through snow.

Get a tire that isn't summer rated like Diamaris

Here is my suggestion but my application is a little larger size than yours, I believe as I have a 2005 X5 4.8is. This is NOT the cheapest solution but is one that I would recommend.

Tires from Tire Rack
Tires 275/40 fronts, 315/35 rear Michelin Latitude Tour HP, $356 front and $378 for the steam rollers in the rear
New chrome ring center caps
New BMW valve stem with those little stainless caps

Follow up note: After a 2,500 mile run to make sure all is OK, here is my report: There is NO tire noise compared to the OE Michelins Latitude Diamaris, rain traction is great, no noticeable handling difference, total confidence up to 135mph, Final thoughts, good choice from OE. Rides like a high-end SAV should.

I had noticed some other threads and took note of your Delente recommendation and was set to buy them. Unfortunately, when i looked them up, it seems like (and I may be wrong here) that Delente does not make 19 inch radius tires.

the set i have is 255/50/r19 in the front
and 285/45/r19 in the back.

any other suggestions you have would be greatly appreciated? I would love to find a quality tire in that price range if I could (or at least below $1,000 for the set).

I went through this last year - I have a 2001 4.4 Sport. I went with these tires from Tire Rack. I wanted something that would handle some snow and rain and these have done well.

I would think twice about summer only tires unless you garaged the car for the whole winter or switched out to winter tires.

Best to have summer and winter setups if you can afford it
All season tires are somewhere in the grey zone...ok in rain and ok in the snow
Last winter on my e39 I had some hankook ipike's and it handled very nicely for rear wheel drive....I couldn't say the same for my all season michelin's that the hankook's replaced ...they were just rock hard in freezing conditions and very unsafe..(not that we get a lot of ice in Seattle but something worth considering in colder climates)

performance summer tires do wear a lot faster than all seasons though..

I have these currently and they are LOUD. Makes the most noises compared to all of my previous tires, which includes Bridgestone Turanza (OE), Pirelli Scorpion Zero Asimmetrico, and Michelin Latitude. I liked the Pirelli best, but unfortunately, it no longer come in these sizes

Where on nyc are you? Just go into any tire shop and ask what they have that's all
