OE filter is Mahle, KL 167 is the Mahle part # IIRC
There is also Mann, and Hengst on the OEM. All are around $50 for OEM (Mahle, Mann, Hengst) - The OE filter (which as I said is Mahle) is $90 or so I'm getting a Mahle from RockAuto next week, and some Dorman clips/vaccuum hose piece from my local Advance Auto - just pray that my brake lines aren't corroded when I get under there otherwise I'll have to patch it up and take to a shop.

Is this the 1st time for your X
I will probably do this next year (remove / replace FF, O2 pre cat, secondary MAF and double check DISA, brake lines, belts, pulleys, tensioners, alignment, axles, suspension) (just hit 100k miles this week) Quote:

OK I have the cover off and fuel filter off. I had to remove the 13mm bolts inside the two cover holes on the driver side. Readings this DIY, it was somewhat clear, and me being a noob, I was worried that I would drop the fuel tank or something. The DIY from Pelican does not mention those two bolts at all and mine would not come off with removing those. All in all it only took me like two hours or so to get it off.
I removed all of the clips by just squeezing them the right way and then moving it a bit. Then I did it again and they all came off. More fuel came out of the black clip line than the others. I even removed the vacuum hose by using a straight head screw driver to pry it a bit while tugging on it. Now I just need to put the new one on and replace the vacuum hose.

- This is just to say tmv is correct. Simply push the Clip INWARD then disconnect the line.
- This VW fuel pump FIY shows you excatly how to deal with this Quick-Connect thingy... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OuQ8iGmgZ_E

Five and a half (5.5) years later...
The Dorman clips that I modified have worked great. Anyway, stick to the recommended Dorman clips as mentioned in the original post.

Great to hear.
I'm going you tackle this job in the next few weeks. Here in Australia clips and special tools unavailable. |
