Under warranty dealership repairs

True or false

- the dealer that did the warranty repair will guarantee the workmanship for 2 years ( even if your 4yr standard warranty or 2yr+ ext warranty has expired ) , therefore we can't not take the vehicle to another dealer for them to warrant the supplementary repairs if we find defect(s)?

- now a days the dealerships are using Tech Units ( e.g a brake fluid flush is 0.4 tech units, RR micro-filter is 0.1, RR evaporator is 8.5 tech units)
Is 0.4 tech units equivalent to 1 hr ( used to be 10 FRU, cut down 8 FRU)?

Thanks in advance....

It maybe true, research it by calling other dealers and verify.

Under warranty dealership repairs

If you read the back of the work order you should see the terms of the warranty. It states that it is backed by BMWNA, not the dealer that did the work. It furthermore states that you can bring it to any dealer AND present the original work invoice.

Im not sure what tech units are nor FRUs these days...

Well it turned out to be: (from two customer service relation staff )

1. If the repairs were done during warranty period, the part(s) + workmanship is guaranteed before the warranty expires (e.g. The vehicle warranty will expire on Nov 16 2014, any repairs is warranted up to Nov 16). BMW NA is encouraging that we take our vehicle to the same dealership (but not enforcing it).

BUT any paid repairs on the vehicle , BMW will offer 2 yrs warranty of part(s)+workmanship
and any dealership can do supplementary repair.

most dealers use the time clock system
as you stated 1.0 is 1 hour, .5 is 30 mins

jobs are pretimed and most things as you know have a set book time
warranty repairs usually yield a lower $ per hour and lower repair time

retail is usually 40% more time than the warranty time and at a higher pay rate

Which is why most hate dealers. I can understand the higher rate, since they can bill what they want to us, and only a set amount for warranty work. (I would say they bill us full rate and warranty time a lower rate).

What I can't stand is the time difference. A repair under warranty should take no less time than a repair out of warranty under any circumstances, except for greed and/or laziness.

I don't hate dealers. They're out to make money like any other business.
What I don't like is a customer who doesn't get all the information re:
parts and labor and job expectations before the job starts and then
complains about the cost and results afterward.

Is there greed involved? Perhaps but lets face it if they offered to do
the job for free we would be all over that offer but the facility wouldn't
survive.

My point was, referencing the post I responded to, that any dealership that is doing a repair in 2 hours under warranty and takes 4 hours to do the same repair out of warranty is probably dishonest. Either they're rushing it and not doing a proper job under warranty, or they're milking it to charge the customer more.

Perhaps 'hating dealers' was a little harsh, but if they're really quoting different time frames for the same repair based on warranty status, that's not right.

Never heard that hours for the same work under warranty are 40% less than paid work. Do you know that for sure?
