Little more growl from the engine bay, in my experience with NA motors and intakes that's all you'll get, its not a night and day difference.

When I had an intake on my turbo VW, now that made a hell of a difference with the turbo spooling sounds etc.

I got mine used for 110 bucks and it was worth it. I wouldn't pay 250 for it though at new price.

Afe air intakes are pretty popular with the Ford diesel truck crowd, where it claims improved performance, though I preferred to high filtration Ford AIS upgrade on my 7.3L Ford diesels. With an intercooled, turbocharged diesel, I see the argument, which is what ants oz is getting at [I think]. Not so much with a gasser BMW .....

+1

Mine was on sale new for $150. I wasn't even going to buy one until I saw it on sale.

Pnoy that's a clean shinny engine bay!
What are the steps?
Hose it down, spray degreaser , rinse?
What's the WD-40 for?)

It isn't because of gasoline vs diesel, it is because of the ease of tuning turbocharged engines for more boost. Engines with increased levels of boost can use more air. If the filter is restrictive (and they aren't necessarily so, but can be) then it can make a difference, on a turbocharged gasoline engine in the same way as a turbocharged diesel engine.

No you just cover basically the intake or avoid getting gunk Original degreaser on the air intake step one spray degreaser all over the engine bay and crevices

Step 2 let the greasers sit for a minute then spray gunk foamy degreaser on top of original degreaser so basically you're using to degreasers at one time let it sit for 10 minutes make sure that you get every little bit of third around the engine bay all the grease is everything then what are you down but not too much pressure on the water avoid air intake

The WD-40 is for basically getting the shine and all the hoses getting some lube on them so it last longer make sure you get every little ball milk and cranny around the engine bay spray everything with WD-40 going to avoid air intake make sure your plight WD-40 on all the hoses rubber hoses

Use WD-40 as soon as you wash down the engine bay make sure that you spray over so that the water drags WD-40 on all little tight spaces let it settle turn on the car and start spraying again w/WD-40 till everything basically dries up and what's left is the WD-40 shine
