New to Xoutpost

I figured I would introduce myself before people wonder who the hell this annoying guy is posting on threads

I recently aquired a 2001 E53 with the 3.0 inline 6 with 178,000km and I love it.

Got the vehicle off my Uncle for a good deal because he upgraded to an 07? X5 with the V8 and 55,000km lol. His loss is my gain

Main reason for me getting it was from the M54s CCV system popping the old engine and replacing it with a used unit that had 50,000km less than the old one, he figured it would stray people away from buying it privately.

Car needs a bit of work, so I found Bavarian Autosports and ordered their front brake kit, valve cover gasket, oil filter housing gasket, throttle body gasket and a neat little 1L oil suitcase lol. (gaskets are for me to inspect/repair the current CCV system lol)

Anyways, thanks for creating this forum, found a lot of useful information like the window track zip tie fix and headlight removal (I thought there'd be more to it!)

-Jack

I'm also under the impression my thrust arm bushings are warn out, the car/steering wheel shake pretty good when I brake, so I'm having it inspected by the weekend and going to BMW for the replacement bushings.

Any other quirks I should be looking for? So far I've repaired the sunroof issue (wouldn't close), figured out the central locking system (key fob won't work still) and had one good round of wet sanding/buffing at the headlights

OH! Also needs an inlet camshaft sensor, I'm hoping it's secretly not this...

Congrats, Jack, though it looks like yours will be a project vehicle for awhile yet. In the last year, I have found lots of helpful info here. Though the search tool isn't perfect, you seem to be finding what you need. At your age and mileage, could be just about anything, though leaky steering rack and CV boot issues seem to occur. Is yours an auto or manual tranny? If automatic transmission, opportunities for issues there, too.

If you go to BMW for the thrust arm bushings, make sure you have them give you the upgraded "Protection Package" bushings as they are much more solid than original. I'm sure they are worn out at your age.

Awesome thanks for the heads up! I was originally going to get the Meyle HD bushings but I'm having nothing but issues with UPS and Bavarian Autosport lol so I've decided my next round of parts will be local.

Amazing! thanks for the part number! Any day now I'll have the front end checked out to verify it is those bushings...I'm pretty sure it is though. I will report back with my findings!

You can figure it out easily enough go under your X (no need to jack it up) and wiggle the arm with your hand, trust me you'll know if the bushings are shot, the arm will have a TON of play in it.
