Discolored outside mirror

Recently i commuted in an X5, a facelifted E53, 3.0i. The car runs fine but i did notice that the passenger side view mirror was of a reddish/pinkish color. the car definitely has electrochromatic mirrors, and the driver's side is plain white/clear, without bluish tint, so it is as it is supposed to be. the center mirror looks good too... I do not know if the system is working or not, as it is not my car, I was just a passenger but the right mirror got me puzzled...

I wonder if the glass is "burned", or under constant power, or whatever...

Anyone ran into this?

I have a friend that recently purchased an 01 740i M Sport with the same thing occurring. It has the electrochromatic side mirrors and the passenger side is a pinkish gold tint and the driver side is perfectly clear. We were just wondeing about this same thing and the cause as well. With his, both side mirrors tint as they are supposed to so that leaves me to believe it is an issue with the glass itself and not the electrical side.

I had similar issue in a Jag. It is the auto-tinting element that is bad so it turns brownest color, not due to heating the mirror.

Does this mean the mirror itself needs changing?

Mirror glass does. If you don't want to live with the orange tint

Eons ago, I recall some guy who fixes the electro portion that is is causing the discoloration (not for E53 platform)- but this was specific for rearview mirrors if I recall. I doubt the cost to repair would be worthwhile than just getting a replacement

I had the same issue with both side of mirrors.
Auto dimming and heating still worked, but I just couldn't get over the yellowness.
Replaced both mirrors with parts car I had.
