This guy in my neighborhood did this to his, he paid a shop $600 to open the lights, swap the projectors, and install led halos

Just to be clear, or these the ones you bought? Umnitza Orion V2 LED Angel Eyes 03-10 BMW X3 [ov2x30002] - $245.99 : Umnitza|BMW Angel Eyes|LED Angel Eyes|Headlights|Lighting|Performance|Service|87748 66489

Also, does anyone know if there are any alternatives? $250 for angel eyes is pretty steep IMHO.

I plan to do this soon myself, and I want to swap out my projectors for EvoX-R's. I did this in my M5 and it made a HUGE difference.

The V2's are the only ones available for our E53's, that's what Mike has installed.

If you don't need the night controller you save 40 bucks and it costs about 210 delivered for a set. I'll be putting a set in my facelift replica lights, along with EvoXR's.

Mike i think the price is reasonable considering that if you buy couple pairs of cheap bulbs and it blows it will maybe total to something like this ..personally i went through over $200 of bulbs that lasts me less than 3months and had to buy more ..so i just spend it one time and forget about it ...
yes the V2's is what is available for our X5...but i want righter so will go with V4's next year ...but i am happy with my angel eyes i guess everyone has pricing with them but this price is legit for me as i am happy with the outcome and won't recommend anyone else for headlight, as he polishes it for you also.gets couple layers out form your lens to get the rock chips out, also pressure test them for you too. as I will be bringing few more headlights to him.. just expect two week turnaround ..and I'm sure you'll be happy with it ...

Ok thanks, appreciate the response. Looks like the V2's are our only choice. But I do agree, as much of a pain in the ass to get those suckers in there you don't want a failure. Do you know if the just go right in or if there is any modification you have to do to the headlight?

I was also curious about the corners. Do they come out easily or do you have to cut them out? I plan on just buying some new lens covers because mine are in terrible shape, but they do not come with new corner reflectors so I would need to move my existing ones over.

no the V2's are made for 01-03 model but some cleaning up the corners and few modifications will make it fit and look like stock as for the corners it was a lot of pain to take them off slowly so you don't break anything as they are brittle to begin with... X5SND can chime in on this one as he did his also but i believe a different technique and brand of AE's

The Umnitza rings and are more of a custom fit (according to Umnitza I have about 20 emails back and forth with them), they just don't have that many molds considering the number of applications they are installed on, you'll have to secure them with adhesive or something similar (some use thin wire). They just send the most accurate sizes out for the application, in our E53 case you get 11X and 12X rings. The product is superb, and lifetime warrantied, no issues with quality from what I read.

If you notice Mike's stock rings were removed, you'd probably have to do similar and glue them in place somehow.

You'll need at least some minor rertrofit experience to do the install and make it look like it belongs, but its not too hard. Opening the housings is hardest part.
