From lots of reading on other forums, looks like the V4 is the way to go....it has a built in night controller, more LED's per ring (less spacing of the led's -the rings look more compact compared to V2) and a lot brighter.
What kind of shop would undertake this kind of job?id look for one in my area since I don't feel like baking my headlights to open them up..
the V4 are bigger rings ONLY made for E46 and E63 chassis
...and the V2 are more retrofit but few modification than the v4..........

ps...Do Not Bake Them..... send them my way if you want ill get them done..pm me.

I spoke to Umnitza about the V4, they don't make them in the offset sizes needed for our E53 applications. Only V2 rings. V4's are really really nice, but at $300 for a set its getting a bit ridiculous, the V2 rings are REALLY nice as is shown in Mike's pics. I don't care for the night controller either, some might, but I don't think its worth the $40.

As well to crystalworks, the generic chinese rings shouldn't have power inverters as thats from CCFL days, they have in-line resistors and capacitors to regulate voltage. Umnitza keeps their voltage regulators enclosed in a white box which is installed in the headlight, those are usually the only things to die on the SMD LED rings.

Yeah, sorry I always include all those terms so people know what I am talking about with those little boxes. Not everyone is as familiar with how 12v stuff works. You are right they are just a voltage controller...

You'll be waiting a while Mike. Umnitza doesn't sell their bigger ring for high beam (they call it a 12X) in V4 as of yet and they told me no plans to as of yet, because of the limited applications (they told me the 12x is used on E60 halogen, Dodge Challenger, and E53 only). Enjoy the V2 it's brighter than anything else from Asia that is easily sourced

Here's a bit of history about our rings.
When we first came out with CCFL (we were the first) in 2003, we gave out the ring diameter as 116mm. It took exactly 6 months for a competitor to knock it off. Albeit not too difficult, but shortly thereafter we built an acrylic mold to surround the CCFL, and sure enough once we gave away that our CCFL ring was a 3mm diameter, it took less than 3 months for the CCFL to be copied.

It took a Chinese company 4 years to knock off the ring design of our most common 11X ring that we sell for our LED product. Since we never gave away the sizing, this competitor didn't get it right and they built the product with lower quality LED and fewer of them (with lower quality acrylic casing).

It is with history in mind, that we do not give away our actual measurements. Sure, you can measure it yourself, but the reality is, that a random person coming up with a diameter doesn't catch the eye because it's not "official". Believe it or not, corporate spies are always looking to get the detail. it's why the Orion 9X, 8X, 6X, 8.5X, 14X (new), and 12X rings have not been properly copied either.

There are now technologies like COB which freely list the sizes (they almost always come in full circles) however they have 3 really bad traits and that is why we're not selling them in high volume - though we do offer them for a much much reduced price of $129 for a kit for the X5.

3 bad traits of the COB - a) incredibly difficult to mount properly - they usually require thin wire strands and cannot be held in place with just glue b) poor longevity when they are exposed to higher heat (like in high beam applications), and c) they are very ugly when off (though that is somewhat changing).

OP - great work. with your permission, can we showcase this product to other facebook fans? Work is great.
Minor recommendation, use a multi-max tool instead of a rotary, less mess, faster, and cleaner cut.
