X5 4.8 is transfer case fluid replacement

The fluid that came out was black and very dirty. From a golden brown to black. Very happy I replace the fluid.

Reset the x-drive adaptations. It'll run smoother and your clutch packs will wear less since it'll know that you have fresh fluid in it.

I did it via DIS diagnostics software. Post#43 has some info http://www.xoutpost.com/bmw-sav-foru...uid-diy-5.html

In my case the fluid change fixed a loud whining noise from the transfer case. Indy and dealership were recommending transfer case replacement.

of course they are... find a transmission shop in your area that rebuilds atc transfer cases and have your local mechanic remove it and send it there to have it rebuilt. My only makes a whurring or whining noise when it's cold. I suspect it's the guibo's in my case.

going that route will save you some $$$
