LOL you don't need to cut wires for an X5 to self-destruct, it does that just fine on it's own....

But in seriousness, I'd suggests the red wire with electrical tape that you've identified as being spliced in to the stock loom. Cut it. If something effs up - splice it back together and leave it well alone because you'll now know what it's there for.

Ok thanks to all those who took the trouble to take pics, I cant see the anything identical in any of your pics....will check in depth this weekend to see where the black and red suspect wire leads to...could well be leading to the backup battery for the tracker device i cannot find...yet...PS SMOKEY53 I see you have a 3.0d 2005 (mines nov.2004) .....can I trouble you for a pic too at some point?cheers fella
