The install was only confusing at first. That's b/c I expected the ends on the struts I ordered from ECS to be easier to unscrew. I headed to YouTube, found some video of the removal, and realized I just wasn't trying hard enough.

10 mins later, the ends were off, the springs were in, and the assembly was installed. (watch your head if you go at this alone: one strut is not enough to hold the hatch)

I've had them now for about a week. Only one Costco run in that time, but it was *really* nice to walk up and drop in the stuff.

There *is* quite a bit more tension shutting the trunk. I am not sure my lil wife will get it done the first time she tries. You have to push like you mean it to get it to close. Not a problem as you're kinda in the swing, anyway. I'd say it's a trade off at this early stage in the experience. I'm willing to put a but more pressure on the close for the convenience of it opening all the way.

I noticed tonight when I took a picture that the springs are blue. Other than that, this is not a detail that I am prepared to obsess about. How often do we look at our hatch and hood struts anyway?

I've had these on my E53 for almost a year. They are one of my favorite modifications that I have done (and I've done a lot). They work beautifully and are such a nice convenience. My Mom wants them so badly for her X3.

Yes. I ordered mine at the end of Jan and they showed up last week.

Having said that, the seller is VERY good at communicating even if his English is not. I'd buy from him again.

They're small. The two of them arrived in a padded pouch small enough that I did not notice it for a week or two.

If I were more curious, I'd measure the exposed section of the hatch and eyeball the spring pictured against it. I'm going to guess that we're at about 5" of length.

Not that length matters.
