3.01 vs. 4.4i

Hello! I am new here and so far I enjoyed the informative forums. I am on the market for an used X5, but still debating between 3.0i vs. 4.4i. Does any of the 3.0i owners regret about not purchasing the bigger engine? I test drove both, and liked them equally... well, maybe a little tendency toward the 4.4i. The most important question now is reliability...I read somewhere that the V8s tend to be more problematic down the road than the I6...is that true? Sorry for the long post, and I really appreciate your inputs on this dilemma
