CCV Failure?

I know not everyone will agree with me but I've been able to keep my CCV and hoses in the winter time pretty clean by using a bit of WD40 and a rag to clean off visible condensation aka "Mayo". Spary a bit inside the oil filler, a bit inside the CCV hose that connects to the CCV along with the VCG port and the oil dipstick. You can't really wipe anything in the oil dipstick but WD40 will help break down the mayo if there is any inside the oil dipstick.

This alone won't help to prevent condensation. As upallnight has mentioned, I remove the oil cap and let the heat vent after use whether it was a hour trip or a 5 minute run. I leave the cap off for a few hours and cap it back up after everything looks dry and cool.

Most important is to give it a good drive at least once a week to burn out the rest of the condensation. After I've taking my X on a long run, I still remove the oil cap and let it vent. With all of the above, I've been able to keep condensation at a minimal. Hope this helps. I leave my hood open while it's venting BTW.

The owner of my company knows of my X5 problem since he saw it being towed on Friday....he throws me his keys to his 2014 xDrive 50i a few minutes ago....holy crap.....fast SOB....however the driving feel through the steering wheel sucks....how about throwing me the $1250 for the repair instead of rubbing it in your a millionaire...j/k.

2 weeks after the replacement and I already have yellow goo buildup. Slightly under oil fill cap and quite a bit in the 90 degree elbow of the upper CCV hose. WTF this sucks. I even took it on 1.5 hour round trip drive last week. It's been garaged every night since the problem so the stuff is unlikely to freeze as the worst cold here in CT is behind us. Jesus am I in a ticking time bomb for round 2?...

You might want to read my post in case you didn't as most people tend to ignore them because I'm not what you would call a regular and I don't have 1,000's of posts.

I've been able to keep my crankcase clean by my above method.

I was just literally talking about your method with my wife. Of course that turns into why the heck you have to do such a thing in the first place.
Once that goo is in there it's there to stay I assume?

No, it goes away. I've been able to use my X on short trips without problems. I remove the cap every time I use her, trip to the store, Remove, going out to eat, Remove. Just remember to put the cap back and remove it when you get back home. Put it back after a few hours when the engine has cooled or if you forget just write a note and leave it in your car every time you remove the oil cap so you won't just go and start her and take off with the cap off.

Taking her for a nice 30min. trip is good once a week is enough to burn out the mayo. While you might see some light mayo it goes away and dries out when you leave the cap off. It helps vents the crankcase as you can imagine it is pretty hot. If you don't remove the oil cap right away you will see water drops start to accumulate under the cap and that is how the mayo starts to form.

As it cools down the vapors vent out instead of being trapped inside the crankcase. Doing that and cleaning it out a with a bit WD40 has worked wonders for me.

Hi , for one thing what kind of oil are You using? I use only Castrol Titanium ,5 30 .....my 4.8is never has any build up of oil.and hardly burns any oil too maybe 1/2 a quart every 4000 miles................it coats the heads and block great and flows through the engine.

I removed the oil cap and am going to give that a shot at least at night while home and it's in the garage for the next month until temps rise a bit.
