KEY FOB SCREW UP...

Changed the battery in my key fob. Still doesn't work. DC multi meter checked the old battery: 2.35 reading, new battery 3.4 volts. Lock system works perfectly with key insertion, but the fob is inactive .
Any ideas how to check the module? Fuses are fine, none blown. Is it a relay perhaps? Checked back fuses and dash.
Car starts and runs fine.
Thanks

I don't know if it is needed but did you try reprogramming the key?

1. find a local place that has the capability to check if your key is transmitting an RF signal.

2. How careful were you when you opened the key? Many times circuits, relays, capacitors, and traces on the key's IC board get damaged when cutting into the key to replace the battery.

A forum member that does this type of work on the side has a "wall of shame" where owners end up sending him their keys after their self-repair failed. And he shows how things on the circuit board have been destroyed in the attempt.

Click following link to see "Wall of Shame" images...there's also contact info at the bottom of the page if you feel you'd like to use his services for repair. If you click around on the site...you may even find an email or phone number if you need to speak directly to him. It still may end up cheaper than buying a new key from BMW: www.BMWGM5.com Key Fob Wall of Shame

here's some examples:

Ricky Bobby will become famous soon enough
^^^This.

I always LOL at the thread titles of these types of posts because I know the OP is going to be posting about "just an easy battery swap in my key" but doesnt have the expertise or patience to be surgically precise in replacing, in order to not damage any of the extremely fragile electronics on the circuit board etc.

I would have just bought a new master key from the dealer.

^like RB said, you definitely need to have patience and be precise.
I opened my key up and replaced the battery like a year and a half ago only to have learned that I could have just tried re-programming it. Oh well...I think I get a better range with my new battery. If I was you I would check every piece of circuitry on that board to make sure you didn't damage anything. If it looks good then its all a matter of reprogramming. There are plenty of videos too. GL
